High Quality Discount Garden Supplies

by admin - July 15th, 2020

If you’re like my husband, along about February you start getting itchy fingers to get out there and dig in the dirt planting a garden. It’s easy to get spring gardening fever after being cooped up indoors during the winter months. He’ll pull out the old gardening tools and try to clean them and get them ready to go. That’s when he’ll remember that the rake head falls off every time he uses the rake or the handle broke on the spade. All of a sudden, he’s in the market for new tools, but the prices can come as a shock. He needs discount gardening supplies.

If you’ve been to your local gardening center in February or March, you’ve noticed that they already have their garden tools on display just getting ready for all the people who are working themselves into a gardening frenzy. However, as excited as they are about gardening, the prices of the tools can be a little over budget. What you need to do is find a way to buy discount garden supplies.

Start out by shopping at your usual stores, even if they haven’t advertised any bargains. Ask a store manager if there are going to be any upcoming sales on the items you’re looking for. You could find out that the garden supplies you want will be on discount  next week. If you don’t ask, you could end up buying tools today that will be much cheaper next week. Doesn’t it just burn you when that happens! Wait for the discount garden supplies.

Try the Discount Stores

Even if you don’t make a habit of shopping at stores like discount houses, dollar stores, and outlets, for garden supplies, you should give them a try. A lot of times they will have new merchandise that was left over from last garden season, but at a lot better prices than “new” merchandise. Who’s going to know or care if you’re using last season’s garden tools?

Used items can also be a good buy. Do a little looking around and see what you can find. So what if the garden supplies are a little dirty? You can always clean them up, and, who knows, you may have found a treasure in the rough at very good discount..

You can have a lot of fun shopping at garage sales and flea markets for discount garden supplies. Not only will they have a lot of unique items for sale, you can also find the garden supplies you need at exceptional prices. Most often if you find something you like, the seller will be willing to bargain a little bit. You never know what kind of deal you could end up.

If you can find a sale at a home where a shopaholic lives, you may well have hit pay dirt. Some people are compulsive shoppers that will buy something just because it’s a good deal, even though they already have three more at home. Eventually they will have a sale of their excess because they’ve run out of room. You can find affordable garden supplies in their castoffs.

Getting your lawn ready with discount garden supplies

by admin - July 15th, 2020

A properly-stocked storage shed filled with lawn and garden supplies and gardening tools is a must when looking to get lawns ready for summer.

Summer is officially here, which means it’s time to head to the storage shed and make sure all the lawn and garden supplies, including gardening tools, are ready to make the lawn look its best.

Great lawns don’t just happen. Having the best looking lawn in the neighborhood takes preparation. The first step is to go to the garage or storage shed to inspect the equipment.

Check to make sure the rakes and other gardening tools are accessible and are still where they are supposed to be. And do a little routine maintenance on the lawn mower.

If you didn’t clean out the under carriage before putting the machine away for the summer, now is the time to do it. Make sure it is free of dead grass and twigs. Also, make sure the motor is in top running order. This would be a good time to change the oil and air filter.

Next, make sure the storage shed is stocked with lawn and garden supplies like fertilizer and weed killer. Many stores are holding beginning of summer sales this time of year, so it’s the perfect time to stock up on these sorts of supplies.

The next step is to grab the rake from the trusty supply of gardening tools and de-thatch the lawn. If old grass clippings or fall leaves are allowed to build up they can choke a lawn, and that is hard to fix in the middle of summer.

While raking the lawn, be sure to keep an eye out for weeds and dead patches. Well worn areas often can use a little boost from fresh grass seed. Once the thatch is removed from the lawn, grab the seed from the lawn and garden supplies and apply it to the areas that could use a boost.

This is also the best time of the year to apply weed killer. Obviously, the weed killer can be applied directly to weed patches, but depending on the weed killer, it can also be applied to the entire lawn to stop the weeds from being able to take root.

Finally, grab the fertilizer from the storage shed and apply it to the lawn. Be careful not to go overboard, though. While the proper amount of fertilizer can help produce a green, luscious lawn, over-fertilizing a lawn can burn it out. Be sure to check the manufacturer’s recommended dosage before applying.

Following these tips will help ensure happy lawn. Once the lawn preparation is completed, it’s time to head back to the storage shed to ensure the spade, tiller and other gardening tools are ready for a summer’s worth of gardening. But that’s a project for another weekend.

Where To Find Discount Gardening Supplies

by admin - July 15th, 2020

Gardeners follow their passion, and gardening is a very rewarding pursuit. But garden supplies like pots, seeds, tools, and equipment can put a big dent in any gardener’s budget. When you want to add a new garden to your yard or lot but don’t have the right garden supplies  to realize that dream, knowing where to find discount gardening supplies at a discount can mean the pot at the end of the rainbow!

Finding discount gardening supplies – there’s the rub. Especially during the growing season, discounts may not even seem to be available to the avid gardener. You can find these discounts, but you have to plan ahead and know what you’re doing to find them.

What’s the best time to find discount gardening supplies?

Without a doubt, the best time to find discount gardening supplies is after the growing season has ended. Home and garden stores will be eager for you to buy their plants, tools, and supplies at a discount so that they can make room for the next season’s merchandise. One good way to add to your garden is to buy perennials near the end of the season. You’ll still have enough time for them to develop roots before winter, and they’ll come back soon the following spring with lots of healthy blossoms and fruits. When you want to get those discounts, don’t think about what you’ll see growing this year. Discount garden supplies help you think ahead to the next growing season and save you a bundle!

Where can I find discount garden supplies?

Retail home and garden stores, hardware stores, and nurseries in the area are one source of discount garden supplies. But online retailers will also be cutting their prices at the end of the growing season to avoid costly inventory build-up. Shopping online lets you find tools, decorations, and garden supplies at tremendous savings for use next year. Not only can you save money on the products, you can save your own valuable travel time and the cost of gasoline by shopping for discount garden supplies online.

Can I find In-Season Discounts?

Local nurseries may offer discounts when they’ve ordered large stocks of plants for big customers who don’t follow through. Or they may simply offer discounts for plants they’ve grown in large quantities to supply their outlets. Call around to find local nurseries’ and plant suppliers’ best deals. You can also find good discounts on specific types of plants and  garden supplies by focusing on the areas where they’re abundant in the first place. For example, you may be able to get tropical plants at a discount by shopping at Florida outlets, either in person while you’re on vacation or online. Arizona nurseries may offer really good deals on cactus, yucca, and other succulents. You may get firs at a top value by visiting nurseries and growers in the Northwest.

What about Joining a Garden Club?

Becoming a member of your local garden club may be a rich source of discount and even free plants and garden supplies. First, club members are likely to have personal knowledge about where to get the best deals and discount garden supplies. They may even organize shopping trips you can join to take advantage of the best sales.

Are Discount Warehouses and Stores a Good Idea?

While some wholesalers and discount retailers may be trying to unload unhealthy plants or faulty supplies through their outlets, you may be able to find some great discount garden supplies through them. Stores that charge a membership fee are more likely to have quality products, and how much you shop will eventually determine how much you save.

When you’re planning a new garden, it’s a comfort to know you can find the discount garden supplies you need. By planning well ahead and identifying the most likely times and locations to find discount garden supplies, your efforts will not only be fun and productive, they’ll be affordable!

Starting a Non-profit?

by admin - February 3rd, 2012

I’m 14 and have been a volunteer for my local senior center since I was 10. I volunteer every Thursday during summer. Plus, since it’s government owned I do the cities holiday events as well. I have a had a passion for gardening my whole life. As well as a passion in helping people. Over the years I would always be at my grandma gardening for her and as a reward I would get cool plants and money in return. I loved it. Just about a couple months ago I pursued indoor gardening. Started with one light and a tin herb garden. Then grew to racks with lights, plant food, and all sorts of professional items! I grow around 30 plants at a time so far I have done 28 basil and 50 parsley… The basil are put into cups after germination… then I bring them down to the senior center and place them on a table with a little information about my process. The seniors always take the plants and they LOVE them. I know or at least recognized a lot of seniors there and have gained friendships… I also volunteer at my church’s Senior Connections. They have something called tips with a purpose. I volunteer with them once a month on their monthly dinner. I work for around 7 hours… from preparation to dishes in the church’s kitchen. Seniors tip me and the other volunteers then the money is split to the volunteers. I normally get -80. That money is then put into an account for me to direct. Of course I use the money for seniors. I am using it now to buy a real nice indoor fireplace for the senior center. I would like to combine my love of plants and seniors by starting a non-profit called "Plants for Seniors". I could then have a non-profit bank account that I can have my church money go into then I could purchase all my soil and seeds using that account. I also could then buy more supplies to get bigger and provide even more plants of all sorts! I have connections with my cities various departments. We have a festival every year and it’s like any festival with hundreds of tents with goods from citizens! I could sell plants in a cup for (nice sized ones too) and the money can go right into my non-profit. I would NOT bank any money for myself. I could then upgrade from plastic cups to clay cups. I could also probably get my local Hardware store to donate some or give me a discounted price. I need to know what I have to do to get a non-profit started. I do realize I need an attorney to start one. How can I do this for cheap or find one that will do it for free? I do have around 0 right now I could use for costs to start up. So money wise I’d be set.

I live in Washington State in the Snohomish County area. So if you or you know someone who could help me out who is an attorney please post.

Shoddy limo service and fraud!?

by admin - July 10th, 2010

For my wedding day, we had a mishap with the limo company. To tell you a bit about the situation, I’ll need a minute of your time because it’s a bit lengthy.

My mother called the Limo Service of Cleveland, located in Berea because a friend of hers used it as their wedding day limo service and got a huge discount. My mother called and interviewed the owner, then passed the phone to me for the final decision. I told Mike, the owner, that the only thing I cared about was that the limo was newer-looking, clean and in excellent condition. Mike told me that the vehicle was a 2006 and was "like new". He stated that the deposit would be 0 and the final balance would be due two weeks in advance of the event. I gave my mom the "OK" to put the 0 deposit on her credit card, (as the deposit was a gift from her and my father.) I also arranged for a meeting for my husband and I to come in, check out the vehicle and sign the contract.

When my (then) fiancee and I pulled up to the company office, right away red flags were raised when we saw a mechanic working with the hood of the vehicle proped open. The mechanic saw our concern and he immediately told us that it was "routine" for him to check the vehicle before every run. He showed us around the limo and to my dismay, it was a rust bucket. The limo was white with a black baseboard. The baseboard had a few dents and to cover obvious rusting, they spray-painted over it with black paint. The interior of the vehicle was dirty and the carpeting had major staining.

When the owner pulled in the drive and took us into his office, I informed him of my concern. I told him that I was interested in another of his vehicles, to which he replied that I’d have to submit another 0 deposit on top of the initial deposit to cover for the different vehicle, which he suggested was in "higher demand". I told him that I didn’t have the money at the time of the appointment and I advised that I’d either mail or drop of the payment. Either way he’d receive it within two weeks.

To my parents’ surprise and dismay, Mike charged the deposit to their credit card account the same day of our appointment, (after I told him that I would bring him the payment!) After the charge was taken, my father called the limo company and asked about the limo, telling him that he misrepresented the original limo when he said it was newer and it ended up being a rust-bucket. He also asked the owner if he held a legitimate business, as he’s never heard of a company controlling their business in such a fraudulent manner. The owner pled ignorance and said that he’d have to call my father back as the contract was not in front of him. We never received the promised returned call.

Two months before the wedding, the limo company charged my parents account the final balance. We called the company many times and were unable to leave a voicemail because the voicemail box was full. My parents decided that they’d cover the limo charge and my fiancee and I would repay them. They also closed their credit card account with the credit card company so that the limo company could no longer charge them.

The day before the wedding we were finally contacted by Mike to go over the schedule. We didn’t have a backup plan, so we were cordial over the phone. I made sure with him that the vehicle would be clean and I verified the itinerary. I let him know that we had a tight schedule so the driver had to be perfectly on-time.

The day of the wedding, the limo was clean and prompt. I was happy that everything was going according to plan. After church, the limo driver congratulated us by supplying the limo with two bottles of champaigne, however there were no cups. This being the least of our worries, we invited him to the after-church brunch and fed him.

We made it to the Cleveland Botanical Gardens, took pictures and then headed to the Cleveland Art Museum for our next picture session. Mid-way to the Museum, the lights in the limo burned out and the radio stopped working. The limo slowed down and we came to a stand-still in front of the Museum. During the pictures the limo driver informed us that the alternator blew and a replacement limo was on its way. The groomsmen, (most of them being mechanics), tried to work on the limo in their tuxedos, but they had no luck.

Before-hand, we had to reserve the BP Building, (an inside venue in case it rained) for 0. We had every intention of taking pictures there. We were unable to make it there for pictures. Furthermore, my groom and I had to jump in the photographer’s car and head to the reception site because we were going to be late.

We were scheduled to arrive at the reception hall at 5pm, where the bridesmaids and I would "freshen-up" and we’d take more pictures with the whole group on the Country Club golf course. We also had a videographer scheduled to take video shots of us starting at 5:30pm. The reception started at 6:00 pm.

The groom and I arrived in
